Aliens

“You still don't know what you're dealing with, do you? Perfect organism.
Its structural perfection is matched only by its hostility...I admire its purity, a survivor,
unclouded by conscience, remorse, or delusion of morality. ”
– Ash, Alien

Aliens, Martians, extra-terrestrials, whatever you want to call them, their existence has been a topic of debate for centuries. They have been described in many different ways and in many different colours but most descriptions agree on the fact that they appear humanoid.

To date, no significant scientific evidence has been gathered to fully support the theory that there are other intelligent beings outside of Earth and yet people’s belief in them have not dwindled and neither have reports of sightings or abductions.

Close Encounters

Astronomer and UFO researcher J Allen Hynek came up with this terminology and its different classifications and wrote about it in his book The UFO Experience: a Scientific Inquiry, published in 1972. The term refers to when people witness an Unidentified Flying Object (UFO). There were three CE classifications as per Hynek’s book.

The First Kind
A person sees one or more flying saucers or UFOs.

The Second Kind
Refers to observing a UFO and also incurring physical effects from the encounter such as:
  • Heat/radiation
  • Damage to terrain/crop circles
  • Paralysis
  • Frightened animals
  • Interrupted radio and TV signals
  • Lost or forgotten time

The Third Kind
An observation of an “animate being” in connection with a UFO.

The Fourth Kind
A person is abducted by an extraterrestrial being. This type of Close Encounter was created by Hynek’s assistant, Jacques Vallee.
There have been many strange occurrences that resemble each of the classifications of Close Encounters and they are included in this section. Feel free to read about them and decide for yourself if, as Fox Mulder says, “the truth is out there”.
